    Thanks to everybody for your replies. The Office of Fair Trading link was the winner. The actual press release concerning this (14th May 2004)which is hopefully in the link below clearly shows that people can shop around for servicing whilst the car is under warranty. Reading through it, it's not quite so clear whether this applies to cars purchased before 14th May 2004 so I phoned the Office of Fair Trading and they said that it does. They advised me that any dealer refusing to honour a warranty claim should be dealt with through Trading Standards. I now await to see how the proud owner gets on with the local Ford dealer. Incidentally, they never queried what make of parts were fitted on the servicing, the first question they asked was, has it been serviced at a Ford main dealer, when the answer was no they said that the warranty was void. Once again, thanks for all your help.
