    I think the same as you, it is getting worse. Possibly because a lot of the work we now do does cost a lot more than it used to, eg petrol in HDI = new pumps, belts, valves and everything inbetween = horrendous bill.
    The last trouble I had was a BMW and a £650 bill. He was quoted and gave go ahead, then when completed I told him no cash no car and ended up storing it for about six weeks until I got paid. Lots of times I find if you stress cash upon collection they don't even bother to turn up for the work, but if they think they can get away with giving you a cheque that could be stopped that's what they will do.
    The other thing I find now is more and more people wanting exact quotes for everything even down to a number plate fitting.
