Bumpy 1998 MGF Posted by Tom Kite on December 11, 2008, 5:58 pm Hi, customer dropped in a 1998 1.8 MGF roadster. When you drive it over speed humps ect the rear of the car almost takes off. Even small hump makes the car just up. It's fitted with hydrolastic suspension and not really sure how it works. I've had the fluid level check which was low but has been topped up now but still the same. Does anyone know how it works or had a similar problem? Thanks Tom  Post a Response ( * ) Required

Re: Bumpy 1998 MGF Posted by Mark mcgrath on December 12, 2008, 8:56 am, in reply to "Re: Bumpy 1998 MGF" the spheres "hydroelastic units" are rubber and are filled with inert gas nitrogen i believe ? over a period of time the gas goes away and spheres shrink so more fluid has to be pumped in to maintain trim height eventually the spheres cannot absorb suspension movement hence the riding on skateboard effect check all mechanical parts links/knuckles for breakage/seizing then suspect the actual units a good pointer to is to check the actual pressure that is needed when pumping up suspension if it is excessive suspect spheres hope this is a reasonable explanation,not used to writing essays  Post a Response ( * ) Required

Re: Bumpy 1998 MGF Posted by Roger Hallett on December 12, 2008, 12:41 pm, in reply to "Re: Bumpy 1998 MGF" Hi Tom its possible that there is air in the system, have the suspension deflated & the fluid evacuated by means of a vacuum pump, and then re inflated to the correct height your local rover dealer should be able to do this, or anyone with an hydrogas machine with the vacuum facility.
