I had a call from a disgruntled RAC customer today he called them out Saturday for a non start they fitted a new battery, today he has the same problem but managed to jump start it. The real gripe he paid £125 for the battery i told him he may not have needed as the starter was at fault today ok so the battery could have been faulty i agree he then told me he paid £125 i coughed and said for exactly the same battery it would have been £75 from me. Where do they get their prices from after all they sell Bosch batteries and get them from ECP at presumably one hell of a cheap price.
They have the cheek to call independants rip off companies.
just some thoughts Kelly

On the other hand, one of my customers had a battery failure correctly diagnosed by the lot in yellow vans. Yellow Man told them it would be cheaper at local garage! Bet that was not in his training. Suspect price would be similar to RAC and Yellow Man was embarressed to ask.

The Recovery Firms Charged the Full Or Maximum Retail price on the parts they supply and fit as they cannot charge any labour as the customer has already paid for that in his subscription.
We did a Job today where they ( Not sure whether it was AA or RAC ) Quoted a Customer £300 to fit a Starter motor and Alternator on a rough old 2000 V Reg peugeot 206, After Explaining that we would do our own checks first before replacing any parts, The Customer said OK as I didn't trust their Diagnosis or Quote, I told him that we would check the Starter motor, Battery, Charging system and Leakage and then inform him of the results. ( He said he knew he hadn't got any leakage as there was no oil on the floor )
Anyway it had a Faulty Starter motor due to a Faulty ignition switch not returning from the crank position, a Faulty battery that was Fully charged and wouldn't read 6V on a High Rate discharge tester and read out as 90 CCA on the Electronic crap tester. ( OK It was right this time )
So We Fitted a Starter motor and a Battery and a Starter button so that he couldn't leave it stuck in mesh again and the Bill was £160 + vat. And The Alternator was Working perfectly.
Tony.
