So what happens now - Parts not available? Posted by Peter Warman on April 2, 2012, 11:48 am Hi All I have Ford Ka 2003 in as the MIL is on and requires an MOT I need a Purge Control Valve, but I have been told by Ford that they have had some on order since 1st February and can give me no indication of when some will be available (if at all) With the new MOT rules the MIL must be off. So now I have to tell the customer that it may be weeks, months before I can fix in the mean time it will not pass an MOT.......crazy situation Peter

Sean Savage management light is not an mot failure,if it was only way around it is reset man light for mot and get customer back in when part arrived. sean

Nicholas Favell Peter, your'e not on your own there buddy. I think the trade press has been telling us for so long that the engine MIL on will be a failure, that when the new RFR's came in with other MIL's we (certainly I) read engine MIL into it without studying the wording properly. I know I was guilty of doing that. Nick

In the trade mags there are articles suggesting the engine MIL is not a safety issue? surely it is If the engine MIL is just put out for the test and then is comes back on the next day.......is this acceptable? I have a friend that had a fault with his Vectra 2.2 diesel, when cruising down the motorway and on some occasions going to overtake the MIL came on and it went into limp, he had to pull onto the hard shoulder, stop the engine and restart to reset the MIL to be able to continue It may not be a safety issue to the driver, but definitely to other road users who have to slow quickly to avoid him Peter

Richard Endean SRS lamps are in the manual but there's no-where to fail it on the VTS device. Phoned the helpline and they said 'we know' !

Nicholas Favell At an MOT forum in March I was told that there was no definite date for bringing in the rest of the RFR's, just that it 'would probably be in the spring'. Philip Dunmore As others have said, engine MIL is not an RFR. However there was a VOSA graphic published in the run up clearly showing typical engine MIL along with all the others. Either it was on the cards and they changed their collective minds or a graphic designer mucked up. This may explain much of the confusion.
