I think the moral of this story is to apply some common sense.
First, you are right you shouldnt burn plastic however, the toughened plastic marker buoys which you can shatter can be burnt in small pieces to prolong the wood or if there is nothing else and you need warmth.
Second, you should be aware of who is in the bothy, I beleive you were mistaken because what actually happened that night was you threw the fishcrate on the fire and were unaware there were two climbers asleep in the room behind the fire. When the crate took hold and looked like the bothy was going to be burned down you legged it. It was when they came next day these two guys were found.
Third, you shouldnt punish wee Dougie any more, the boy cannie take another of your 'seeing too's'
Fourth and finally, are you still the Oban Bothy man and have you been to Peanmeanach lately, there is a rat problem.
