Having read Colin Hogarths paper on the above I can only agree that indeed there seems to be some dodgy deals being done in the MBA. Having been involved in the fight to prevent the Slugain bothy I am confident that there are some seriously misguided people at work in the MBA.My dealings directly with the outgoing Chairman and others left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. I was struck by the high handed manner in which dissent was dealt with, I should stress that this type of attitude was not restricted to the Chairman himself. To me the MBA has lost its way with a distinct gap between the aspirations of the basic members and those who occupy positions of power.
Of great concern to me was the total lack of editorial control shown by the Newsletter Editor. He seems to have allowed the Chairman to write half of the journal and much of what was written was petty, childish and undemocratic. Its time for Scales et al to depart and allow the MBA to focus on maintaining the bothies it has.
But as a note of caution, post Slugain debacle we were told lessons would be learned. The AO for the North East Scotland states, in the Newsletter he has two projects in the planning but is keeping them secret at the moment. No information on the web or in the Newsletter. Lessons learned? Open communication? It seems that nothing has changed, the MBA has a lot of issues to deal with even if the good Dr does depart the scene, he is not the only Dame at work in this pantomime
