Posted by Andy Mayhew on 9/24/2002, 1:10 pm I couldn't give you any more details of the possible new projects, or when the Area meeting was, because I wasn't told myself. The AO did however inform me on 7/8 that "The Eastern Highlands Area has two projects awaiting approval of dates from the Estates involved". I don't know how much these have been discussed by teh Area and certainly they have not yet received Committee approval. Only then would full details become available. I should also point out for anyone else reading this that I produce the MBA Newsletter in my free time (and, being self employed, I work a 7 day week) and I do not receive a penny for doing so. Indeed, it actually costs me money as I do not reclaim any minor expenses incurred. I do it because I can, and because unfortunately I can't get to many workparties (why can't they be held on the 8th day of the week?). Indeed this is the big problem with the MBA. All those involved in running it do so voluntarily in their spare time. And sometimes they selfishly allow work, health or family to intervene, meaning things are not done as quickly or efficently as they would have had they been full time employees. A fact which critics of the MBA (and I'm not getting at Dave here!) seem to conveniently forget. (Indeed I sometimes have to remind myself of this when getting frustrated because I am not being passed information that should go in the Newsletter!) Dave, I have no argument with you. You have mentioned issues which deserve explanation. In many respects I agree with you and in your shoes would be expressing similar sentiments. I hope the above comments help. All else I can say is that I do the best I can. And I'd much sooner spend every other weekend at a workparty than produce the Newsletter! :-)
Hi Dave,
Unfortunately it is not my remit to dictate what the Chairman can, or cannot, communicate to the membership. Under the circumstances it was not possible to dicuss the matter with any other senior Committee members and I felt the course of action I took - in publishing his comments with only minor editing - to be the best available to me at the time, and within the strict time constraits by which I was bound. Certainly to have carried out wholesale editing or not to have published them at all would have created far more problems (not least for myself). Those 'criticised' by the Chairman know me and understand this.
Btw you rumbled me - Prospect is of course my old bothymonger alter ego!
