I am a sixth year student at Dingwall Academy studying Advanced Higher Geography. The shieldaig/slattadale hydro scheme is the subject for a critical essay i am writing, i have done much reading on the subject and i feel it is atrocious that one of the few naturally beautiful areas left in Scotland is on its way to being permanently marred for a few measly megawatts of electricity. Water pumped from the Badachro river system into the Kerry river system would have a detremental effect on rare freshwater mussels which are at present protected, the area is also a breeding ground for black throated divers which would be effected by the change in water levels.
