You could do the Southern Upland Way from East to West then make your way up to Glasgow and try the West Highland Way. It can comfortably be walked in 7 days ... less if you want.
Bed and Breakfast accommodation is perhaps more readily available than trying to find a Youth Hostel, caravan site etc.
