I can't disagree with anything you've said here. Your choice to post here was probably wise exactly for the reasons you stated. It is unfortunate that people get so emotionally involved without first considering and respecting the other person's right to state an opinion and or facts.
I too hope that the Military Industrial Complex that Eisenhower envisioned and the standing army that Washington warned us about is only this old man's paranoia. Both of these late leaders had much to offer America and I would hate to see their warnings about our future come to pass. The only solution I see is to remain vigilant, verify, and question everything.
Lastly, I too enjoy our discussions as I have become much more informed as a consequence. It is unfortunate that many others sacrifice the quality of diverse opinions in a barrage of shouting matches, false bravado, and name calling. We all lose when issues are overshadowed by bullying and emotions.
