I believe that although we share the larger picture to some extent, I am not so sure that I we are on the same page, and that's fine because people don't have to totally agree on every detail in order to achieve similar goals. The predatory analogy that you cite doesn't always ring true, that's like saying muscle or power is the only road to gain intellect, and that passive creatures can't attain intelligence, I guess I have to bore you with examples from animal life to human existence when the seemingly passive underdog comes out on top, If you think about it exists in every form from the smallest life forms bacterium, viruses, to insects, to reptiles, to mammals and primates, and humans. Just give it a thought and you will yourself come up with examples in each class where the passive is preyed upon, and in the end emerge victorious. Germs lay latent in our bodies for years then attack then outsmart the aggressive immune system and make us sick or kill us. I give you a small poisonous toad, and its excretion kills its attacker, how about the skunk and the porccipine how about Indira Gandhi or Nelson Mandela not exactly unintelligent but all very passive, really we can go on and on about animals and cite all the great generals that were out numbered but never out foxed, bla bla bla bla bla. I will hope that we as a country stay aggressive to a fault in defending our borders be it from illegal aliens sneaking into our country to terrorist threats, I still don't think invading Iraq, was the kind of aggression that helped us to gain anything intellectually. Actually it exposed to the entire world the intellectual morass this administration stands on, just perpetuating the myth of the "ugly Americans".

: Yes, we share the scars with men of every
: generation as far back as time goes. It has,
: as they say, always been so. I understand
: your position but look at it a little
: differently. I dont believe a passive
: creature can really attain intelligence. Why
: bother? Generally, the predator must be
: smarter than the pray and certainly more
: aggressive. At least in the higher animals.
: An unintended consequence of our
: intelligence was the conscience.
: How we will resolve this conflict in our
: nature I dont know but in this context war
: is a symptom not the disease. I think
: humanity stands on the brink of success or
: failure. So to me its important that whoever
: is in the Whitehouse has as close a grip on
: reality as possible. Not a soul committed to
: a single cause. Be it Dem or Repub I dont
: care. Either way, we both want the same
: thing.
