My favorite thing actually happened back in the late 1960's when I interviewed Bill and June Reading for a radio production about the Whaley family and their San Diego home. We had finished talking about Whaley history and got at first reluctantly on June's part, into the more recent history of this house, including the early haunting pheneomena she and her husband both had observed. This was the launch that would bring me back to the house to read the Whaley journals, written in his own Spencerian script, to really come to know the man and his family through their respective writings as well. It all started that afternoon in the Courtroom of Whaley House, and I have never been the same since.
