Posted by Anonymous on 11/5/2005, 9:45 am My condolences. These are hard times and not the best to suddenly find yourself out of work. Hate to say I told you so, but looks like I was correct in my assessment of that business deal. If you work for G&G your probably totally out of luck. If you work for the other houses on their tour you lost a necessary second income. Except for the Whaley house people. Their eveing open admission will allow some income to trickle through for a while. Nice that they don't have to suffer yet, though the other businesses are. Trickle is as trickle does and trickle down is inevitable. But like I said before, their policy of admission isn't going to work in the long run. Any business major could look at that program and tell you so. And it's not like the docents at the Whaley house don't know it. The docents are fully aware and most think it's a bad idea from the start. But it's not like you can dictate to your higher ups how to do things. They are right and you just are there to do your job and watch the whole thing fall apart. And when it does, those poor docents won't have the priveledge of being able to say "I told you so". So watch it fall apart. It's only just begun. Pretty soon most if not all the guests will wise up, pay only $5.00 admission to stay all evening. Heck, all the regulars have figured this out and even tip others coming in the door to do the same. Word travels fast. And it's all over Old Town. If you have any intelligence, you can determine how to work their system by simply reading the admission page of the SOHO web site. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it all out. Pay daytime cheap price to get in, be able to stay all day and night, also take away mystique of being in house at night (therefore desire to rush to get in there...can go ANYTIME), pay docents till midnight or so, and viola, $$$ problems. The G&G tours were great. Glad I caught them when I did. Again, my condolences to those who have lost their jobs, and to those who undoubtedly will soon be in the same position.
Well, interesting night on the board last pm. From your post, sounds like you work for either Whaley or G&G. And kept under a false impression of job security to the last minute.
