Hi sisters! It has been awhile since I have posted here but I do visit quite often.
My Oncologist highly recommends that I get a hysterectomy because my BC is Estrogen/PR positive. He said there is no scientific proof that this decreases my likelihood of a recurrence but he is pretty aggressive in his approach. He said if I were his sister, he would recommend it. I took that BRC test and it came back negative. So I don't carry the gene for uterine/ovarian cancer is my understanding. I met with a GYN to discuss the procedure and side effects. She said that by doing a hysterectomy, I will no longer produce estrogen which protects my heart from heart disease, strokes etc. I will also have other side effects like hot flashes, mood changes etc. She said this it will be a personal decision for me to make but other women who do not have BC have the option to take hormone replacement pills to counter the side effects whereas, I will not have that option. My fear is that I will be completely miserable and my quality of life will be thrown out the window if I opt for the hysterectomy but I also want to decrease my chances of having a recurrence. Would you ladies who had this procedure done respond and let me know how it has effected you and I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on this tough decision.
I was stage 2B, ER/PR+, Her2+...triple positive!
Thank you for listening.
