That's interesting. I was not staged until after my surgery. That's when the positive nodes were discovered and my surgeon told me I was Stage IIIa. All 14 nodes were removed but only 4 were cancerous. After surgery and prior to chemo, I had a PET scan to see if there were tumors elsewhere to determine treatment. Chemo before surgery wasn't ever mentioned. Maybe because the tumor was pretty small. I did have a biopsy done of nodes prior to surgery, but nothing showed up, guess it wasn't the sentinel node.
I remember finding out at some later date that all nodes didn't have to be removed. New info that we didn't get quite in time. I think some surgeons are still removing all of the nodes.
