I agree 100% w/ Cheryl: Asking the rads onc. about the statistics is a critical piece of knowledge that will help you make your decision. While a good diet along w/ avoiding smoking and drinking alcohol may promote a healthier lifestyle, it doesn't really have anything to do with killing any stray malignant cells which may have escaped, and that's the purpose of radiation. I would ask the rads onc: "What are my chances of recurrence if I have rads? And what are my chances of recurrence if I don't?" I asked that question, and in my case, my odds of recurrence dropped by 20% if I had rads, so I had it. But every woman is different, and whatever decision you make is one you have to be comfortable with. My hope is that you'll make your decision based on the actual statistics.
