Hi Luann,
I had lumpectomy for my 1.1 cm IDC, clean margins and no spread to my lymph nodes. I had full-breast radiation for 30 days. My radiologist told me that in my case radiation will help reduce the chances of reoccurence from 20% to 2-3% in the first 5 years.
If you find it difficult to have full-breast radiation, you may consider brachytherapy. It's a 5-day treatment. However, please mind that some researches find it is only 1/3 as effective as full-breast radiation.
I agree with the others that you should consult your own doctor.
To me, 6 weeks of trouble worths my while as I may get many years of BC free life in return. If treatment options are available, I want to take it and be more aggressive and proactive than the BC I had.
