Hi Alvita,
In my second round (i.e., after 4 cycles of A/C), I had 12 cycles of taxol w/ herceptin. Technically, herceptin is NOT chemo in the sense that it is an antibody that essentially tells a cell not to copy itself. It has no (or very few) side effects. It's purpose is not to kill the malignant cells, which is the purpose of the other drugs (taxotere, adriamycin, cytoxin, abraxene THC, etc.) In that sense, I guess you could say I had taxol "alone" though for insurance purposes they do call herceptin
"chemo: just because it is a drug and doesn't fall under "radiation" or "surgery." Since you've had trouble w/ taxotere, you may have trouble w/ taxol also. But I think your best bet is to ask your onc what is the absolute BEST chemo drug(s) you could take that you can tolerate. I think Peg's suggestion is a super one: to ask your onc about taking Abraxene. They have to conduct studies/trials on all of these drugs hundreds of times before the FDA even approves them, so it may be important to take certain drugs in combination with others. Again, your onc would know. Hope that helps. Hang in there.
Hugs & prayers,
Mary
