    WAYFARERS 2 - 0 BADGERS



    24 Jan 09 1230hrs, Wood Green School.



    The home Derby was held at 1230hrs at WGS with nearly 1/3rd of Witneys Club Players involved. Wayfarers came out strong, passing the ball around with confidence and injecting many balls into the D. A few chances were missed, but the scoring opened with a scrappy effort, finally put away by Vern Kay, but which could have touched half a dozen sticks before it went over the line. It was followed up 5 minutes later by a far more impressive effort from James Bartrip that eventually won him Man of the Match. First half to Wayfarers, but with some spirited defence from the youngsters.



    The second half saw some tactical changes from both sides that definitely worked for the Badgers. For 20 minutes the ball didn't get outside Wayfarers 25yd line; It was only some dogged persevereing and an absence of a clinical Badgers finisher that kept the scoreline the same. Some stern talking to and a change of formation mid-half brought back some Badgers composure and a few chances towards the end of the game, but the second half went to Badgers, albeit without score.



    Overall this was a really good game. The Badgers can leave with heads held high, having knocked us about fair and square for the second half. Wayfarers learnt much, and will stick with its 2-4-4 line up in future. Good game!
