    WITNEY WAYFARERS 3 - 1 CITY OF OXFORD 4

Sat 21 Feb 09 1330hrs Wood Green School

Wayfarers had a surfeit of players available (a unique situation!) and put out a good squad against a team who we had been beaten by first half of the season. Our VC Tony Brown, particularly wanted a good result to expunge the nightmare of that defeat!

The first half started well enough, passing round the pitch, using the wide halfs well and getting the ball into space. Good. But, as always, we messed around in the 'D' to much and didn't capitalise on this good work. Several chances were saved by Citys excellent keeper. Then a quick piece of passing from one end of the pitch to the other was efficiently put away by City, leaving us 1-0 down at half time.

Wayfarers are a mature team, and certainly not phased by the score line. If anything, it inspired, as the second half saw us play quicker, better and finding far more space. Constant pressure was absorbed again and again by City, but their frustration started to show and it was (as always!) Kaka who eventually scored a typically hard earnt goal. Some dissent was nipped in the bud with a green to city and a yellow for our own Kaka (earning him the Muppet award). 10 men gave City an advantage for 5 minutes, giving Will Bartrip in goal some work to do, but it didn't last. As City got tired, more space opened up for Wayfarers. A Tony Brown strike put us ahead, then he converted a short corner brilliantly, rightly earning him the Man of the Match award (which adds to the 42nd birthday celebrations for Tony on 22nd Feb!)

A 3-1 win was well deserved. If we play like this every week, Wayfarers may hit its promotion target!

TEAM: Will Bartrip (GK), Geoff Saul, Jake Crowley, Mike Roberts, Neil Boyes, Ian MacLachlan (coach), Ben Campion (Captain), Vern Kay, Tony Brown (2), Nick August, Kaka Carrol (1)
