Posted by Secretary on 2/16/2006, 10:58 pm Woodley welcomed Kingsley United from Liverpool, to Lambeth grove on a wet dismal Sunday afternoon. Unfortunately, the game mirrored the conditions, United had shown great promise in the earlier fixture between the two sides, with Woodley having to work hard to secure a 2-0 victory in Liverpool, the Merseysider’s driven by a competitive manager, and some good players, especially the captain at centre half, but the expected tough game here, didn’t materialise, as Woodley cruised through the game without really going through the gears! The Steelmen raced to a 4-0 lead at the break, the pick of the 1st half goals a Craig Pennington header from a Kane Smith cross. The visitors had good reason to feel aggrieved, as one of these goals was a clear offside. The second period was more competitive, Joe Smithies made a steady home debut appearance at centre half, and with Hynes replaced the injured Pennington, the Woodley scoring continued with a fine move down the right, resulting in Scott Hodges providing a perfect cross for Tom Bane to finish neatly. The visitors replied with an excellent strike from a Kingsley forward on the edge of the 18 yard box, but frustration later saw the Liverpool side reduced to ten men, and Woodley scoring a sixth goal.
