This is the BBC News at Six. There's been a huge explosion at Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza, causing dozens of deaths. Hamas, designated a terrorist organisation by the UK government, accused Israel of carrying out an airstrike. Israel has not commented publicly – so who knows what actually happened? After all, it's presumably possible that Hamas could have a rocket 1,000x more powerful than anything it's ever possessed before.
We will bring you updates later tonight when we learn more.
This is the BBC News at Ten. Israel has now given us permission to attribute the explosion at Jabaliya refugee camp to the Israeli Air Force. We can reveal that the Israeli military operation was carried out to kill a leading member of Hamas, designated a terrorist organisation by the UK government. Most of the other people killed are believed to have belonged to Hamas too.
Meanwhile, in Israel, our correspondent has another of our daily stories, supplied by the Israeli military, about the October 7 attack, in case those distant events are starting to fade from your memory and you are thinking a little too much about all the Palestinian children being killed in the much more recent bombardments.
...no amount of cajolery, and no attempts at ethical or social seduction, can eradicate from my heart a deep burning hatred for the Tory Party...So far as I am concerned they are lower than vermin.
