I used to remember when his articles filled a coupl of pages in the Daily Mirror and the Sunday Mirror, when he had a huge audience, millions; for his truth-telling about what was really happening in Vietnam.
Then he started to make outstanding documentaries that were incendiary and ripped apart the curtain of lies we are exposed to. All those awards he won, decade after decade.
But over the last decade he's been effectively canceled in the UK media. How utterly shameful. Arguably he was the most famous and charismatic journalist in the UK, but was dropped from television and had to almost finance his films out of his own pocket and through donations and crowd funding, as the UK tv stations withdrew his finance and in reality tried to censor his work.
The BBC took to labeling him as a 'campaigning' journalist, which meant he was no longer 'objective' like the others think they are, or pretend to believe they are. I don't know which is worse?
Think how bad things must be in UK journalism, when a fine radical voice like his, despite his fame and pedigree can't get a regualar column, anywhere?
I hope the cowardly pricks who canceled him, don't start to praise him now that he's gone. I hope he wrote a final piece where he warned that this is what would happen and reminds us not to believe a word of it! Way to go, John! Leave this world the way you lived it... punching above your weight!
