Johnson and Lebedev and the monstering media Archived Message

It struck me while watching the fairly decent "Dispatches" investigation last night on Boris Johnson's close connections with Alexander Lebedev how the media would have treated this story had it been Corbyn who gave the son of an ex-KGB agent a peerage and seat in the House of Lords. You don't have to imagine it, the stark differences smack you in the face. Had Corbyn spent several holidays in the villa of a Russian oligarch, attended dozens of functions with him and his son (birthday parties, receptions at No 10 etc) and been given favourable coverage in the Evening Standard and the Independent, both owned by the Lebedevs, he would have faced a monstering of epic proportions by the corporate media. Yet for Johnson, nary a peep, even while he ditched his officials and security staff and went off on a jolly to their grand villas in Umbria or wherever it was. And of course lied about it -- telling a HoC committee that he had "cleared" these trips with No 10 staff when the leading official in his office told Dispatches he had never been consulted and knew nothing of the visit.

It'll never happen, but all of Johnson's appointments and recommendations for past honours and his final honours list should be struck off. Lebedev junior should be thrown out of the Lords and Johnson investigated for corruption while in public office. The man plumbed the pits of decent public behaviour, which considering the depths it has suck to is quite an achievement.
