Anyone here seen Opeenheimer? I saw it yesterday, I wouldn't rave over it. It was very long for a start .The music was a bit intrusive, the sound effects LOUD. The acting was professional rather than obviously brilliant, they were doing what they were paid to do, be convincing. Rather too many close ups of Oppenheimer's face and eyes starting troubled into the distance. It told an interesting story and how the powerful in the military and in the White House conspired to bring him down after the war because he was a bit troublesome and speaking out against the development of a thermonuclear weapon. Dunkirk was a better film. So my take from this film was not so much to fear the danger of nuclear war (I mean, here we are quite happily fighting a proxy war against a nuclear armed Russia, but no-one on our side seems concerned about escalation to nuclear conflict, and our leadership would be doing this if there was any risk at all, would they?) but to fear the lying and murderous duplicity of those that rule us. History confirms that we’d do well not to trust a thing anyone in power ever says at any time about anything at all.
