Worthless carbon credits. How most countries think they'll con us into accepting their "net zero by 2050" commitment. For NZ we've promised to meet our "net zero" by purchasing 80% of our emission reductions from other countries. In other words, we've committed to cheat. This article confirms the nature of this cheating.
For the UK, Rishi Sunak has admitted fossil fuels will still provide 25% of the UK's energy needs in 2050. So how is this going to actually be offset because this amounts to around 125 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent at present emission levels. That require the planting of trees on around 50 million acres or nearly the total area of the UK. Whet combination of schemes or nations can manage to offset that amount of CO2 emissions? This "Net zero" is a nonsense, and the media's failure to call this out is a scandal.
