Re: 562 Story on 49er PA Announcer Dan Smith
I donít know how this will affect ticket sales. But attendance figures have been dropping for the last two or three years.
For myself I did renew my season tickets for this year. But my enthusiasm for this program is at an all time low.
I used to live and die with this program. Attended every home game and some on the road. If I wasnít attending the road game I was listening on the radio or online.
I usually donít do that anymore. Still attend the home games but the enthusiasm just isnít there. Losing will do that, also the administration just doesnít seem to care. If they donít care why should we?
Good post BillL...
Will this cause any to not renew their tickets....?
When will the current administration ever learn. They have already pissed off most of the Alumni with the Prospector Pete fiasco and the dropping of our 49er nickname.
Now they have fired a popular announcer who has been there for 35 years? Just because he apparently had a disagreement with a administrator who has been on the job maybe a week?
This administration has no respect whatsoever for the opinions and feelings of the long time alumni. They have no respect for the history and traditions at Long Beach State. They act as if the school was founded yesterday.
But boy they sure want our donations.
Andy lost his backbone a few years ago.
Guess the buck does not stop with executive Andy.
I found Executive Athletic Director Andy Fee's comment hard to believe. The decision was newbie Sean Ferrera and Roger Kirk's? Teflon Andy
I'm glad the 562 dug into this for some more clarity. I don't like how it was handled for someone who had such a long tenure and while I never met Dan Smith I thoroughly enjoyed his PA work at games. Sounds like they gave Dan little more respect than you might a short term temp. Did the same to long time dedicated and generous alumni with the Prospector Pete fiasco.
I remember stuff like this when they come begging for more donations.
And I said this to Sean when he called me, I donít think the athletic department is headed in a good direction for a variety of reasons, and itís frustrating to see something that could be so good not be run the best it could be.Ē
