Its like Monson speaks Chinese to a bunch of English speaking kids when he 'instructs' and 'coaches' them. Well maybe not, because Yan might be decent at this point. He speaks an ancient form of Navaho code.
I'd love to know the reason how one Monson team after another is so horribly unprepared to deliver on the court and repeatedly shoots themselves in the feet in non conference especially against average to better than average teams.
Does he purposefully recruit players that look good on paper but have terrible listening skills?
Does he just get unlucky and as soon as they step foot on campus they become unteachable?
Are they actually ready to play and have learned but what they learn is so useless for the types of players they are that it just doesn't translate into real games against real opponents?
Do they feed emotionally off their coach who usually looks disheveled, bewildered, pained, itchy, and morose?
It is only a point of interest for me and has been for years. Its unfixable. Dan does not change unless he's cornered then he makes promises to change and doesn't in practice. He makes surface level adjustments, like Mental Mondays, a concept which his team has either reversed in principle and gotten worse mentally, or what was offered was totally inappropriate for their problems, or yes maybe he recruited a bunch of unteachable guys.
Its not Monson though. Can't be. He's a great coach. Maybe it is perpetual bad timing, bad luck, bad food, bad mojo, bad energy...
