Re: Track - Men solid start
some nice pieces but still a long way away from becoming a solid team in both mens and womens teams -- one step at a time and hopefully we will get there --
Men's side has a good group again, going to challenge for title come May.
Throws are deep!!! Top three guys (Vernoy, Coleman and Jones) can score serious points come May. It is early, but in Discus each is ranked in top 20 nationally. In Hammer, Coleman and Jones are 21 and 31 nationally, with Vernoy just outside top 50. Also have Pablo Gamez 6th in conference close to breaking 60m/200ft barriers. Add in a solid Jav thrower in Gonzalez over 200'.
Good news too is that Jason Smith is back for a 5th year. He's the big dog in the jumps, few others could score a few points.
Some distance help come conference hopefully as 800 meter has Mohamed and Kalmar with nice opening results of 1:50 and 1:51. 1500m has Michael Phillips at 3:46 with brother Connor and Kalmar both 3:48.
The relay opened with 40.55 which will score nicely in Big West. The sprints don't have a stud, but a couple guys 10.7(Palumbo and Harness). Hurdler Anderson is inching towards breaking 14.
Overall solid group that will compete in May for a title.
