Re: CSUF reasons why cannot bring back football
Mid majors can't compete against P5 schools in football. If there was a mid major division I'd go watch those games but the Cal States budgets prevent football expansion. I am not sure how San Jose State, Sac State, Poly and UCD can afford to keep their FB programs. Maybe they play enough games for pay dates against P5 schools. Fresno State and SD State are the only solid football programs at the CSU schools.
It would cost Cal State Fullerton at least $10M-12M per year to bring football back into the Titans portfolio, which is not something the school can afford. AD Donovan: "Iím saying what it costs to have a football program, plus four corresponding women's programs so that we would meet Title IX gender equity, after ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, donations and everything probably would still be around $10 to $12 million a year. As you step down to either the Football Championship Subdivision or down to Division II, it becomes less appealing for people to make donations and buy tickets and come out. Especially in Southern California because you get USC and UCLA playing at the highest level. ... It would take about $125 a semester for every student for us to start football back up, about $250 per student a year. So, not going to hold my breath there." https://dailytitan.com/sports/football-program-not-expected-to-return/article_53ac30a4-bed3-11ec-a58b-ef046bf21a38.html
