Who is Being Marginalized This Time Around?
I agree with you that alumni are being "marginalized" just like other disadvantaged classes of people have been in the past. Good point!
Actually, the 19ht amendment did not give all women the right to vote 0 The federal sufferage amendment prohibited discrimination on the basis of sex, but it did not address other kinds of discrimination that many American women faced: women from marginalized communities were excluded on the basis of gender and race. Indigenous peoples, Asian Americans, Latinx and African Americans had to fight long after 1920 to vote...still are.
They got it 2 days before my birthday.
So alums are only about 102 years behind!
Women got the right to vote via the 19th Amendment on August 18, 1920.
We are in a very sad state of affairs.
I don't recall what year women got the right to vote in the USA. Alums have not yet gained that right more than 100 years later when it comes to important elections regarding Long Beach State University.
Is this discrimination against Alums? I'm not an attorney so won't attempt to answer that question. YOU DECIDE.
Here is the email:
Dear CSULB Administrators and Staff,
A student group has proposed changing the name of the Daily Forty-Niner campus newspaper. To help inform their decision, they are seeking feedback from faculty, administrators, staff, students, and alumni.
We would very much appreciate your opinion on this issue
