I assume that the conference is exploring the addition of another member is to break into two divisions and reduce conference games. Play two in your division and one against the other.

Agree, we haven't been in a realistic spot to add a better member since Boise. The realistic thing is the second tier teams out West (which I think we can be considered assets/potential wise) will cannibalize each other.
The best way to raise our RPI regarding the Big West would be to leave it for a stronger overall conference, which doesn't seem eminent in any fashion.

The more weaker members with low RPI's means more BW League game that will drive down RPI's which will cost the basketball champion a lower seed and reduce the chances of more baseball teams being selected for post season. Previous Message
It's basically the same drive, and actually a little closer to Sacramento than Phoenix. Also, adding Grand Canyon creates a new required trip, while most of the trips up to Sac already happen since you're playing Davis anyway. Personally,
I'd be fine if Hawaii left, which I think their supporters would prefer, and we just kept the conference as is with 10. The bigger you make the conference, the more you dilute the chances of getting into NCAA play.

It is getting old adding schools that bring nothing to the conference athletically just because they are in California. Arizona has some schools in the WAC and Big Sky that would expand the conference market. I would love to have Grand Canyon in the conference even though they are private. That schools has invested heavily in facilities and does well in sports the BW does well in. The logical fit for them is the WCC and then the Big West. IF the WCC does not add them after the BYU move the BW should look to them. Sac State will just be another Northridge or Bakersfield. Most of the time not very good across the board. Grand Canyon is a closer drive to SoCal then Sac State. Previous Message
Last time we expaned it included a UC and a State school. There are 5 of each and Hawaii. I don't think UC would allow another state school and give up the balance of power. There is not other UC school with an athletic program. I believe if we expand that it will be another neutral school. Politics!!! Previous Message
Sorry, but when was the last time a Sac State team in any of the main sports finished near the top of the standings?

Tied 4th WVB, 7th WBB, 8th MBB
Even baseball finished tied for 5th in the weak WAC.

What would be ideal is joining the Big West Conference. That conference seeks a 12th baseball member, and you can bet the Big West has eyes on Sac State. The appeal is mutual. The Big West is heavy on California, with Hawaii the only out-of-state school. ... The Hornets have the pedigree to be that 12th Big West program. The Big West will have meetings next month to discuss adding another school. The earliest a 12th could be added would be for the 2024 season."
