Power 5 vs "mid-majors"
The resource difference (not just money, but staff and facilities and connections) between the haves and have-nots is SO incredibly vast that it is virtually impossible for a PAC-12, SEC (or whatever big conference) administrator or coach type to "go down" to a mid major and be successful...they simply cannot comprehend the differences!
Vic came close but thought he'd be back at a PAC school in 2-3 years and was miserable after a few years and ended up leaving with a 7-figure defecit that King was willing to tolerate but Jane wasn't (just like Bob Maxson wasn't willing to tolerate Dave and Seth's deficits, so they left). Now, some Big West-types can move up and be successful in the big conferences, but going the other way is almost always a recipe for moderate success at best, but more likely definite mediocrity or even causing a total mess.
I would like to see someone coming from a P5 or high level G5 school. Someone that has seen the bigger picture and understands how to get there. Also someone that isn't using their position as a woke political platform.
I would like to see Rob Clark return.
Any thoughts on who might be a good candidate to replace Andy? I have heard various people mention Alan Knipe, Rob Clark, and Wayne Stickney. I have no idea about how Jane plans to go about finding a replacement. Appoint Alan seems like an easy and fast way to go, but...
