Re: Sound System
I recall when I was an undergrad in the late 70s and early 80s, most of my classes were in the LA buildings, which at the time did not have AC, when there was a hot spell (like this week) it could be miserable. I personally agree with the students that AC is worth the investment.
But, I also hear the other side, the folks that want to hogtie our ability to generate electricity need to understand there are consequences. More AC means more greenhouse gas emissions, maybe means more warming? Who will be the one to give up their electricity use to stop warming? Maybe you cannot have it both ways. If it is a real crisis, maybe we should be decommissioning AC on campus rather than building more.
You so right, they spend years complaining about these things here and demand money be spent, but when students and faculty ask to update buildings almost 70 years old with air conditioning, they howl.
Next they will be attacking the forgiveness of some of the tuition debt when they had almost all theirs paid by the taxpayers.. in advance.
sports is a secondary or tertiary activity at a higher education institution. Air conditioning is a needed resource.
Boy, what if students and alum complained about the sound system in the Myd, or even the long lines to get popcorn and a coke, or more comfortable seating...
"Stop Global Warming!"
"No to chemicals!"
"Reduce costs of goods!"
"More AC, bring on the HFC's!!!, get the boats to China moving or fire up the factories, get those rare earth metals, reopen Diablo Valley, natural gas is okay!!!"
A ceramics class with kilns is complaining about it being too hot.
