Re: From the D1 Ticker
Vic told me once that the WAC came calling when they were a mess and looking for schools to join their conference. He was not interested but said if the MWC called that he would take that call.

They need an LA area school for basketball.....
IF we had an AD in place like VC he would try to rangle up the support and spend the dough (even if we don't have it) to land in the hybrid Pac. Every coach in pac rotational sports would want an LA school for recruiting.
VC had his flaws, but pushing towards greater goals was not one of them. King had his back though, which was a different time.
The Mercury News’ Wilner contends the Pac-12 should “take the lifeline tossed by the [College Football Playoff] presidents [via CFP expansion] and adopt a more Machiavellian approach” to increasing its numbers. Specifically, Wilner believes the league should “consider kneecapping the Mountain West and getting creative with membership in both major sports.” The first course Wilner suggests involves adding San Diego State and either Fresno State or Boise State as full-time or FB-only members. The second option Wilner submits includes adding San Diego State, Boise State and Fresno State in all sports and SMU as a FB-only member. Finally, Wilner notes the Pac-12 could add SDSU, Boise State and Fresno State in all sports, SMU as a FB-only member, and Gonzaga as a hoops-only member. “Gonzaga would instantly elevate the depleted Pac-12 basketball product and satisfy Arizona’s need for a second powerhouse. The Zags are the best possible replacement for UCLA among schools that aren’t currently members of the Power Five. (Hello, Kansas.)” More. (link)
