Re: Stand by my friends.
Maybe as a pitching coach, if he wants the head SC gig, Job 1 for Sr. Valenzuela needs to be getting his winning % up to a 3 digit number that starts with a 7 or 8.
In January 2023 the NCAA with conduct is annual meeting and the results of the recommendations of the "Transformation Committee" will be promulgated.
Some of the recommendations which more than likely will be adopted are for example; there are now 4 paid coaching positions allowed for D-1 MBB. The recommendation that there be unlimited paid coaches. Have as many as you want to pay for. Also, baseball has 14 1/2 scholars ships and a roster maximum of 35. Well, the recommendation is to have a roster limit of say 30 all of which can be on scholarship.
These are examples of what probably will come to pass.
How much of this do you think Long Beach can afford and what do you think Mrs. C will allow.
Mid-majors will be at a cross-road.
There won't be a sudden drop this year or next but soon thereafter when all the permissive rules are changed allowing programs to spend at will.
It's crazy how little LBSU has and what it overcomes. But if the plan is to tighten the belt and add additional expenses there will be a seismic shift in terms of what "competitive" means. There is no fat to cut only muscle.
The placing of the gentleman now acting as AD and reports to the CFO is a preemptive strike to cut future expectations on success and financial support..
How long do you think Sr. Valenzuela will stick around when USC has 40 scholarships to give and he has 14 1/2? Same can probably said of the likes of Messers Hildebrand, Arroyo, and Ingrassia.
