Nice comments Mar.
Winning meets will be tough with our roster size and support, but competing to be a top 3 program would be great.
Cal Poly, UCSB are distance based programs, Fullerton has stepped up, and Davis has historically filled it's niche up north and found success especially on the women's side.
I think most years we'll fall in the 4-5 area, and then get a group like Fick and Scimia that can pull us higher.
I understand us being geared towards track success, and then have XC complement that. Scholarships towards track can cover more events in spring (throwers/sprints/jumps can compete in up to 3 events come championships and not really affect their outcomes, distance really 2 is tops, but takes a great athlete to be able to double effectively).
Might try to catch the XC championships to see how Phillips and Fick compete in their final championships, and then also how Scimia as soph can keep sliding forward!
it is nice to see that we are competing and doing well individually but now somehow to build and improve the team so we can win some meets ------
Might have a historic season, she won at Riverside two weekends ago with a time of 20:07.5, a new school record for 6K. Beat Sierra Atkins (Davis) who just won at Oregon Dellinger Friday. going to also be pushed by McKaylie Caeser at Fullerton.
But also has Allie Scimia, who was 4th only 9 seconds back. Problem is Women's team has those two, then two solid girls, missing one piece.
Beach was 4th, but with a 2:22 gap. If they had one more girl they would push for top three this season, but not having a fifth (much less a sixth) is a huge liability unless someone was rested.
Men are struggling overall. Phillips rolling and will compete for all Big West or potentially the title. Ran 24:02 which will be up there on record books. Cal Poly is going to roll to the title this year.
