My guess is that's its being done by someone who doesn't know basketball. A student drafted for that maybe? It was awful last year and now not fixing it is an embarrassment.

Believe the home team is responsible for putting the score up. Even last year there were issues with the score being correct. Previous Message
ESPN is so slow updating the score it is embarrassing.
