It's been frustrating throughout the Monson years because he just doesn't seem to know how to coach offense. How many games have we seen like today where a team with lessor talent makes up the difference with coaching?
Now it seems that Monson's added the Globetrotter three-man weave to soup-up the offense. I'm guessing they weave three times and give the ball back to Joel to try to get the defense to adjust and see if he can do something one on five. It just looks like inept offense coaching. We know he's gotten away with it when he's had players like Ware and Caffey and even last year with Joel and Colin, but there's always been way too much standing around and no rhyme or reason to Monson's offense.
I watched some of the game from the rail upstairs. Jadon Jones, one of our best offensive players, often comes down the court, setups up high to the right of the key and just stands there. Can't you run a few plays for one of your best three-point shooters? Montana State certainly did.
Some positive observations, I like what I see from Amari Stroud, he's the one big who can finish inside. I'd like to see more of AJ George and less of Tsohonis, the latter has a really ugly outside shot and often lost his man badly on defense. Tone Hunter will get better with minutes. Aboubacar looked like his old high flying self today, he's fun to watch.
There's some talent on this team. Despite my frustration with the offensive coaching, I'm still looking forward to seeing how this team develops.
