Totally unprepared, and the opponent was very prepared, this is square on the coaching staff.
Lacking discipline, on the players and coaches.
Banging this drum all season: if we don't force the tempo and get our guys 'going' with high level defensive stops the offense will continue to stagnate. MSU had this all figured out, was very prepared for our full court pressure, and used a disciplined well coached approach to never let our hectic defensive style get going (which does lead to our offense opening up).
MSU's Raquan Battle (#21) tore us apart because Tsohonis was very lazy guarding him, and #21 was athletic, active, and wanted it. Tshohonis kinda sucks so far, he's strong and a bull inside with some nifty moves, but that would be nice if he were 6-9 235. I'd give him more of a pass but he was so freaking lazy about boxing out #21 or getting out to him at the 3 pt line.
Murray and then Aboubacar were the only guys who were at all integrated into this game. The rest of the team mostly stood around not really knowing what to do on offense. We ran not one play to get Jadon open because the offense was stagnant as Monson's demeanor.
This home opener is just another nail in the coffin for CDM for me. He continues to exceptionally underwhelm me as anything but a low level coach. He has no business being a head coach anymore and I hope the new AD has at least enough sense to review the body of work under CDM and realize how bad he sucks.
And if any big time donors go to bat for Dan with the new AD, they own this garbage and if Dan gets more time here, I'm done.
