A few posts down people were stating what it would take to become a San Diego State in basketball. Besides having a successful coach who has stayed for a long time, and excellent recruits which certainly helps, they have one thing that no other Cal State program has and that is money. Their football program has a new stadium and they draw 30-40 thousand for their games. Viejas Arena constantly sells out with 12,000 rabid fans. The money they make from these two programs allows them to probably come close to breaking even in their overall athletic budget for the year. I know most state schools lose millions every year. LBSU no longer lives in the 70's when to build a program like Tark did didn't take much money at all. In fact his salary at LB was $13,000 dollars which was LESS than he made at Pasadena City College! In another year if we get a solid coach like Pasternak at UCSB or Turner at UCI, and more support in attendance then maybe we can start making the top 75 most years. To make the top 25 like SD State just isn't going to happen very often.
