I also liked Jeff as a person and he represented the school and community well outside of his teams not facing the flag or not being on the court when the national anthem was being preformed. His players were good students and citizens and we all should be proud of the program under his guidance. However, his teams never seem to perform well when it counted and could be be easily defended. Offensively he could either not recruit the players he needed to score the ball or his offensive system did not fit his players. Of course the team ran the ball and played good defense and that was entertaining. It would have been nice to see if a few more years he could have figured out how to win the conference and make the NCAA tourney.
Without knowing who would be interested in the job I would like to see the LBSU grad that now coaches at UCI apply. I also would not mind seeing Jason Flowers and Jody Wynn also apply. Mix in some young energetic applicants and hopefully the department can bring in the right fit to really elevate the program. I believe a good technically coach and just above average players can win in today's environment. Nationally the top teams are very good but not much difference in talent in the 40 to 100 range. Jeff is a very nice guy and probably about a B- coach overall. Solid recruiter but a little lacking on the x's and o's. Hope he has success at St. Mary's. IMO, we should get an equal or better coach no matter what the AD situation is. Still the best facility in the Big West, (even with the leaks!) best culture and best weather.
