It's doable, but it requires some planning and coordination, especially in terms of getting a budget proposal that will satisfy the requirements. The funds are temporary and re-allocated each year, so every new AS President gets a crack at holding the funds over Athletics' head. Has anyone shown any ability to get the support of the students behind Athletics recently? Jane's graduation response certainly doesn't help the cause. It's another thing that the new AD will have to get a handle on.

Coaches are construction related my opinion, I know some of the track coach money has come from the foundation in the past for the assistant coaches. Maybe this is similar? Previous Message
The new fee is an IRA fee (Instructionally Related Activities). It won't be coming in until next fiscal year, and there is a committee that has to approve/allocate the funds. The AS President is the chair of the IRA Committee, and has three other students, along with faculty and administrators. Athletics is going to have to develop a plan for (on-going) use of the funds, and then re-allocate existing funds to more discretionary purposes. Previous Message

Agree! The money from the added fee should not be used to buy out and existing coach. Let's try to get a solid new AD and let he or she start to carve out the future for us!!! Previous Message
it is if we feel happy or sad - it is time for a change in the way the program is being run -- i am not one that wants to promote one of the assit. to a interim position -- let dan finish out his contract and then we can move on --- if the new ad wants to promote one of the assist. to the head coach position then so be it ----------------------- Previous Message
When does the fee happen? Most of you but not all of you want changes in MBB. I will assume that the school could buy Dan out now if used that way. Most of you will be happy with the future as long as they hire the right AD. The future here could be great. We will see. I will be happy with or without Dan Monson as coach.
