LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Head Women's Basketball Coach Amy Wright signed her first recruit in freshman guard Lauren Cummings. The announcement was made Friday afternoon.
"I'm excited to welcome Lauren to the Beach Basketball Team," said Wright. "Lauren is a great person and player to help pave the foundation for what we want to achieve here at Long Beach State. Coming in as a true freshman, she will have the opportunity to learn and compete right away. Lauren is a three-level scorer who is a top 10 scorer in Montana. She has also played football, so we know she's competitive and not afraid of a challenge."
Cummings, a 6-foot Billings, Mont., native, will come to Long Beach State after lettering four years at Billings Senior High School. With the Broncos, Cummings racked up the accolades as she was a First Team All-State selection, a First Team All-Conference selection, and an All-Tournament Team selection. Additionally, she was named the Team MVP after the 2022-23 school year and earned the Team Workhorse Award from 2021-23.
She averaged 17.2 points per game, 9.2 rebounds per game, and 3.4 assists per game during the 2022-23 season. Cumming set a Billings Senior High School record when she scored a career-high 33 points in a single game.
In addition to competing at the high school level, Cummings also gained experience with the Under Armour 17U squad that won the 2022 National Championship.
Cummings excels both athletically and academically as she is a four-year Academic All-State honoree, a National Honors Society member, and a four-year honor roll selection, all while boasting a 4.0 GPA.
Athleticism runs in her family, as her sister, Allie, is a sophomore women's basketball player at Point Loma Nazarene University, while her father, Kris, played baseball at Cumberland University.
