Football would be fun, but football as a participatory sport is on decline. It isn’t going anywhere soon, but habits are changing particularly viewership in person. Soon everyone’s social network will be linked to their phone, and that will be okay for them.
If FBS, it wouldn’t move the needle in LA sport world unless they were ranked. Could I imagine LB having a team, sure, but without a huge donor group dedicated to bringing it back, a fun idea is all that it will be. Most people like watching tv or streaming at home. a four hour game that costs money is a harder sell now than 30 years ago when we cut football.
The article is just one persons opinion written free form, not a real argumentative one with evidence explaining the position . I would argue opposite, that we have been a campus without a true identity in the community. Football might be able to help that, but the enormity of that undertaking is less important than securing funding for our current offerings. And it would take a special president to accept that challenge.
