Over the years the event had lost is luster, as well as the quality of items offered, and attendance waned. May be that the cost of staff time and the event itself may have become more than the net revenue being generated?
Certainly the first couple were social events to be at.

Many of the events were handled by the Alumni Relations Dept. It all stopped when the prez greatly downsized the dept. Jewels of the Night was handled by the athletic dept. Keep in mind it takes a lot of people and a good amount of money to put on these events. We had a lot of alumni and general volunteers avaiable and willing to help with these events. It would be very difficut to accomplish such events now for many reasons.
