• Major industry left LB decades ago; MBenz plant is a pass through not doing sales here.
• Biggest suburb in America; no true local daily newspaper, no radio, no local TV or local cable news.
M9st businesses in LB are either services or a couple of production subdivisions for corps outside LB.
Local businesses just being civi not the answer... just an occasional handout.
Either be of value in the region or be where we are on the sponsorship front.
I.e... drawing crowds, excitement and some regular regional media. Need big 3 teams to be regionally good with some national presence like SDSU has reached.
Back to alumni donors (most are pissed off) and campus fees (least expensive CSU but most applied too, brilliant 🙄.
Hmmmmmm... good luck Mr. New A.D. Previous Message
city of lb - signal hill -- how many billion dollar companies in long beach, bib receiving yard for mbenz -- some always want to blame the boosters (tax payers) for not giving more and more -- what about as some above have said -- go out and get some larger donors and city and business sponsors -- how about cutting back on their budget and start at the top down -- and increase the tuition on the students -- lets say $500 per year with half going towards students needs on campus and the other half going to athletics -- the cash cow is not the donors or the boasters -- they also have limits -- also get some leaders that have the best interest of LBST for there past history and future growth ----------------- GO BEACH -- GO 49ers Previous Message
How many corporate sponsors do we have? The city of Long Beach use to support us. Do they still? Previous Message
Right on the mark with the analysis.
Add to this Jane and her non interest in alumni and decrease in donations (those in foundation have informed me). Also the tearing down of the alumni association that is a shell of its former self. Previous Message
Try this yet again
Aside from staff effort (beyond Legends on 2nd St and Naples Rib Joint)... and previously noted low student fees at one of the most applied to unis in the NATION....
Donor interest low perhaps:
• One NCAA in flagship sport is 20+ years ago
• Last CWS in Omaha 25 yrs ago
• WVB 20 yrs removed from a run
• MVB is the very successful and very well funded but honestly it's a 'niche' sport with less than 20 D1 teams and only half those fully funded. It has a loyal but niche following.
Oh, and let's not forget:
• 49er alums, like me, no longer have a mascot or name they recognize. #NotHappy
But otherwise, what could possibly hold back donor giving?
New A.D. has big job re-energizing after 20 yrs of turds. Previous Message
How about someone gets off their ass in the Athletic Dept and start going after more alums, fans, students for new donors. It's not fair to blame the people that are already generously giving their hard earned money. We need new blood or we will be D2 in a very short time. Previous Message
EXACTLY! Start upping the checks before complain and try to compare ourselves with schools like a UCSB or goddamn Fresno State! It is not even close how much NIL money they have compared to LBSU Previous Message
I think that we have a little over 2,000 boosters, which generally says that the AVERAGE booster donates about $700 per year. We either need to attract a lot more boosters, or hope that our current booster base is willing to make major increases to our donor levels per year if we want to compete with the schools that we would like to compete with in sports!!! Previous Message
It is interesting in that we, the donors, contribute less than $1.5M compared to the donor contributions at schools that we would like to compare ourselves to!!! In short, we in general, are part of the problem!!!! Previous Message
