However, it was apparent that the program had become stale on the court.
After the good 2015-16 season, there was only one high finish in BWC over the past EIGHT seasons.
Will start off by saying, as others have said, that this needed to happen. Obviously. It's been 17 years, a new AD is coming in from an athletics department at SDSU, the program has been stale, support needs to be re-earned, etc.
This program has had much potential over the years: time to start fresh.
That said, and I've said it before: Dan is a class act. I have no doubt that he's had good intentions overall. And I was there at Academic Senate meetings when he was first hired (we all had high hopes then).
These things are always bittersweet from a human level. Wishing him all the best, truly.
GO BEACH
I want to thank Dan for his player's high graduation rates while he was at LB. Since very few BW players get to the NBA a degree will be important to the players going forward. I agree with you that after 17 years at LB it is time for a new start for men's basketball.
I want to thank CDM and his family for the 17 years at Long Beach State. He did a lot of great things for MBB the first 10 years and put us on the map. That being said this is a great day for Long Beach State and MBB. We will finally get a fresh start with a new coach, new ideas, hopefully one that gets out in the community and sells MBB to kids and their families. I don't know if any or all of our returning players will go to the portal or not but this change is long overdue. We might have a tough time next year but I am excited about the future for the first time in a long time. Thanks again CDM and I wish you nothing but the best in your future.
