Like others are saying Dan is a good person who cares about his players creates a family type atmosphere, but I think he takes chances on players other coaches pass on. The missing key has been high basketball IQ players. One doesn’t have to be the highest star rated player to still understand the game inside and out. Dan tries too hard to focus on a small core of players and doesn’t use a deep bench. Because of this injuries or player drama can greatly disrupt the outcomes of games. He also has players that are flat out too small. Both in height and strength. Too many players have gone through out program and shown very little difference in muscle mass. And also as others have said he stopped getting the fans involved. I think we need a coach who understands the younger generation better. Just watch the post game/ pre game, they all think they are Pros, Gold chains, doing instagram lives, etc. We need to have a More basketball discipline program. Find ways to control the players , all the while respecting and mentoring the hell out of them. I think Monson saw a lot of players like Yan, Kaela King etc , Silva as like missionary work. Where he can use his faith to make a difference in them. I’m not knocking that, but just pointing out that it could make some people take chances that basketball wise they really shouldn’t. Anyone can put together a highlight reel, but one must see their actual court vision and fundamentals. Also outside of the Casper years, I never really noticed definitive Captains on the team. Typically the role was shared amongst senior bench cheer leaders. We need a good solid PG that has Captain like qualities. I am hopeful like you all that the program goes up from here. And wish Dan the best. My prediction is he goes to a private religious school where he can try his style of coaching.

I was thinking the same thing. It took the coach getting let go for the players to pick it up.

Why didn't we play like that the rest of the season?
OR THE LAST 10 YEARS?
